Newly developed 50.1MP Exmor RS full-frame sensor features a stacked back-illuminated design with integrated memory that maintains high image clarity and dynamic range while also enabling fast 30 fps shooting and and phase-detection AF. The 50.1MP resolution not only benefits stills shooters as it also offers full-frame 8.6K oversampling for 8K video recording.

The BIONZ XR processor significantly improves image processing capabilities throughout the camera system, including up to 8 times faster processing, significantly reducing the number of rolling shutters, and accelerating interface and file management.

The α1 incorporates real-time AI-based tracking that automatically maintains accurate focus when the shutter button is half pressed. An all-new subject recognition algorithm uses color, pattern (brightness) and subject distance (depth) data to process spatial information in real-time and at high speed. Real-time tracking of α1 is faster, more accurate and more stable than ever before.

759 phase-detection points in a high-density, focal-plane phase-detecting autofocus system cover approximately 92% of the image area, ensuring flawless accuracy and focus in potentially sensitive scenes.

An all-new heat dissipation structure keeps the temperatures of the image sensor and image processor within their normal operating range, preventing overheating while maintaining the compact dimensions of the body. This allows 8K/30p or 4K/60p 10-bit 4:2:0 video to be recorded continuously for more than 30 minutes.
