Canon Europe announces a new model for the EOS Cinema Camera range, the RF-mount EOS C400.

The EOS C400 is a versatile, all-in-one solution for a wide range of productions, from independent film and documentary to news coverage, live TV and virtual filmmaking.

The EOS C400 is the first high-end RF-mount cinema camera. It ushers in a new era for Canon products, and more specifically for the EOS R System. Compact and high-performance at the same time, thanks to its innovative design, it embraces features and functions at the cutting edge of current possibilities and present on much larger cameras. The EOS C400, with its compact, lightweight body offering unprecedented agility, stands out for its ease of use and ergonomics, without compromising on performance. What's more, its unique built-in connectivity features, including Genlock signal recognition, video return input and a 12-pin connector for communication with professional lenses, make it ideal for live multi-camera productions.

RF mount

With the Canon RF mount, the EOS C400 benefits from the vast potential of the RF lens range: fixed focal lengths, zoom lenses, hybrid lenses, Cinema lenses and VR lenses. For added flexibility, the camera is also compatible with Canon's EF-EOS R mount adapters and the new PL-RF adaptor. In addition, the EOS C400 offers extensive metadata capabilities and connectivity options, facilitating real-time frame-by-frame data acquisition to optimise VFX and virtual production workflows.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

Canon is now integrating its Dual Pixel AF CMOS AF II autofocus system into its EOS Cinema System, bringing enhanced autofocus capabilities to filmmakers. With 100% coverage of the entire sensor area, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II delivers unprecedented precision performance.

This AF system also brings benefits such as AF detection and tracking of the body, face and eye of people and animals.

Recording formats

When internal recording is required, users can choose the format to suit their specific preferences. Options include Canon's 12-bit scalable Cinema RAW Light LT/ ST/ HQ format, the highly reliable 4:2:2 10-bit XF-AVC format, and the all-new MP4 format based on XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S. 

Compact design

Users accustomed to the EOS C500 Mark II will appreciate the typical ergonomics of the EOS C400, now optimised by the adoption of a more compact form factor, while still offering an extensive range of connectivity. All of this allows operators to access the full range of functions typically associated with large-scale production cameras, without the problem of size, weight or the need to fit related modules.

The new compact design and new features such as the versatile LCD monitor support, the improved top handle and the ergonomically optimised grip make the EOS C400 easy to use and perfectly adaptable to different shooting methods and configurations, whether hand-held, stabilised, shoulder-mounted or drone-mounted.
