Number of aberrations can affect the image quality of a lens. Chromatic aberration is one of the main ones, and minimizing it is essential. There are two types: the transverse, which can be rectified by digital processing, and the axial which is difficult to correct after shooting. In the Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, FLD lenses ("F" Low Dispersion), with characteristics equivalent to fluorite, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) optimize the power of reproduction of the optics. This optimization minimizes both axial chromatic aberration and transverse chromatic aberration. Aspherical lenses minimize astigmatism and distortion. All of these elements generate a resolution of the highest level both in the center and on the edges of the image.
